Pressemeldung der Firma Adam Opel AG

1. FSV Mainz 05 and Opel announced that the football stadium in Mainz will carry the name OPEL ARENA in the future. The contract between the German Bundesliga outfit and the Rüsselsheim-based carmaker will initially run until 2021. Apart from the naming rights to the arena, the cooperation also includes an extensive package of promotional and hospitality services. Furthermore, the parties announced that the already existing sponsorship deal was extended by a further five years. Opel has been a partner of Mainz 05 since 2012.

“Opel is a company with immense charisma and it is deeply rooted in our region. Ever since the start of our cooperation in 2012, we have known Opel as a reliable and committed partner. We are happy and proud that a company of this magnitude and with high regional identification has decided to acquire the naming rights to our fantastic football stadium. Mainz and Opel are a perfect match,” said FSV chairman Harald Strutz.

Jürgen Keller, Opel’s Executive Director Sales, Marketing & Service Germany, added: “This investment represents a clear commitment to the region around our traditional headquarters and is a sign of our appreciation for Mainz 05 as a partner. FSV Mainz are an established Bundesliga side and rewarded themselves for a great season by securing a place in the Europa League. We are looking forward to continuing along this path with Mainz.”

The renovation works in the stadium will start on July 1 and will be completed by the end of July at the latest – just in time for a friendly to mark the reopening that Opel and Mainz 05 are planning to host in the OPEL ARENA in the first weeks of August. Currently, it looks as if Mainz will face a European club in the friendly. The Mainz players will have to master the first round of the German Cup (August 19 to 22). The first ever Bundesliga match in the OPEL ARENA will be played on the last weekend in August if Mainz start the new Bundesliga campaign with a home game. If Mainz are handed an away match first, they will have to wait until the second weekend in September before taking to the field in the OPEL ARENA.
